Choshoji Temple

This is said to be the site where Hongokuji Temple once stood. Hongokuji Temple was originally built by the local lord Ishii Saburo Chosho within his residential compound as a donation when he became a follower of Nichiren Buddhism. After it was transferred to Kyoto, the high-ranking priest Nissei reconstructed this Nichiren Buddhist temple in 1345 and named it after Ishii Saburo Chosho.
"Mashiroki Fujinone" tanka-inscribed monument, a statue of Nichiren, and Soshido (Muromachi architecture).
Annual event: Practical ascetic act by Nichiren Buddhist monks, who splash cold water over themselves on February 11.
