This temple was founded by Niccho as an independent temple belonging to the Nichiren sect of Buddhism. Called "Onmesama," or the god for the easy delivery of children, this temple enjoys the faith of those who wish to have a safe birth. The temple is also famous as the place where Minamoto Yoritomo held a meeting to work out the battle plan that led to his overwhelming victory. The name of a temple was changed into Daigyoji (change of a Chinese character) by this great victory.
