Jokomyoji Temple


Under the sponsorship of Hojo Nagatoki, this temple was founded in 1251 by Shina. It was the family temple of the Hojo family during the Kamakura Era. Later, it was also connected with the Ashikaga family and enjoyed continued prosperity with the support of Kamakura Gosho, a governmental agency set up to rule eastern Japan after the demise of the Kamakura government. This temple belongs to the Sentoji faction of the Shingon Buddhist sect. Kamakura Goddess of Mercy No.25 / 33. Kamakura Ksitigarbha No16,17 / 24.


ü Tourist attractions include: Amida Sanson: a wooden statue of a Buddhist image, which is designated one of the nation's important cultural properties, featuring the region's unique decorating technique called Domon. Yahiroi Jizo: a wooden statue of Jizo, the guardian deity of children, picking up arrows. The statues are housed in the temple's storage, which is open on Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays, unless there is bad weather. Other attractions include the grave of Reizei Tamesuke, and Amibiki Jizo.
