Jyojuin Temple

This temple was constructed in 1219 at the order of the third generation regency Hojo Yasutoki at the place where it was believed that Kobodaishi, founder of the Shingon Buddhist sect, lit a holy fire for invocation. According to the cultural topography of the region, Jyojuin was once transferred elsewhere after it was devastated by a battle in 1333, and was later rebuilt where it now stands during the Edo era. This temple is famous for its beautiful hydrangea flowers in summer. Kamakura Goddess of Mercy No.21 / 33.
