Jorakuji Temple

This temple was built in 1237 by the third Shikken officer Hojo Yasutoki for the soul of his mother-in-law. It belongs to the Rinzai sect of Buddhism. The temple was originally called Awafune Mido, but was renamed with Yasutoki's Buddhist name after his death. Kenchoji's founder Rankei Doryu lived here until Kenchoji Temple was completed in 1253. Its main sanctuary houses a statue of Rankei Doryu, as well as the temple's principal statue of Amida Nyorai.
