Kaizoji Temple

Shichidougaran burned down in the Kamakura era, this temple was rebuilt in 1394 by Uesugi Ujisada under the command of Ashikaga Ujimitsu, inviting the priest Shinsho Kugai to take occupancy. Its sanctuary Yakushido was transferred in 1776 from Jochiji Temple. It houses a statue of Yakushi Nyorai - the god of medicine -, called Nakiyakushi, within the body of which the face of a Yakushi statue can be seen. This temple belongs to the Kenchoji faction of the Rinzai Buddhist sect. Kamakura Goddess of Mercy No.26 / 33. Kamakura Ksitigarbha No.15 / 24.

ü There are two wells in the grounds: Sokonuke-no-i, one of Kamakura's ten fam ous wells, and Juroku-no-i (Contact the temple for admission). Shimizu Motoyoshi haiku-inscribed monument, Kaneko Ippo haiku-inscribed monument.
