Gokurakuji Pass

The Gokurakuji Kiridoshi slope - one of Kamakura's seven Kiridoshi, or steep slopes - was reportedly cut at the order of Ninsho, founder of Gokurakuji Temple. The geographical feature made it possible for a relatively small army to block Nitta Yoshisada's entry into Kamakura.

ü The slope at that time was reportedly steeper and located nearer to Jojuin Temple. Gokurakuji slope monument.
