Myohonji Temple

This temple of the Nichiren Buddhist sect was founded in 1260 by Nichiro.
Its history starts with a sanctuary built by Hiki Yoshimoto to pray for his father Yoshikazu and other family members who were killed in an attack by Hojo warriors at their residence here. The main sanctuary Soshido houses a statue of a seated figure of Nichiren - the founder of the Nichiren sect.
Another sanctuary enshrines Jakushi-Myojin to pray for the repose of the soul of a woman who committed suicide during the Hojo attack.
