Scenic Coastlines

Wakaejima

This is the nation's oldest artificial island harbor off the coast of Zaimokuza. The Zaimokuza coast was a major entrance to Kamakura for merchant ships coming from the other parts of Japan. However, the shore was shallow to a considerable distance, which was inconvenient for loading cargoes and was also dangerous for navigation. To solve these problems, this island harbor was constructed from piles of rocks by Ouamidabutsu, a Buddhist priest, with financial support from Hojo Yasutoki during the Kamakura era. The island is now accessible to tourists to the rocky shore when the tide is low.

Marine Park at Inamuragasaki

Inamuragasaki is a cape with an exquisite view of Sagami Bay with Mt. Fuji and the Enoshima island in sight.
This view is on the list of Kanagawa's 50 most beautiful scenic spots. The cape is also famous for the warrior Nitta Yoshisada's legendary march into Kamakura city to overthrow the government.

Shichirigahama

This sandy beach extends about four kilometers between the Inamuragasaki and Koyurugimisaki capes. It is on the list of Japan's 100 most scenic beaches. The beach is close to the Enoden line and Route 134, which runs in parallel with the coastline.
Compared to the Yuigahama beach, waves are relatively high here, making it appeal to surfers.

Koyurugimisaki
Located at Koyurugimisaki cape is Koyurugi Shrine, which was constructed by the Genji warrior Sasaki Moritsuna to show his gratitude when he got an inspiration from the god through a dream to earn distinction in battle. From the top of the cape you can enjoy a magnificent view of Enoshima island and the Izu Peninsula.
